COMMISSIONING
A PET PORTRAIT
Pet
portrait commissions are welcome (at this time
they are the only commissions that I accept).
I first draw and then paint all portraits from
client's photos of
their pets. I use only professional-grade
watercolour paints and acid-free archival
watercolour paper.
Please read the following important
information prior to sending a request...
► Pricing:
An unframed portrait on 8"x10" piece of watercolour paper starts
at $175 USD + shipping (shipping does not apply
to local orders for pickup). The final price
of your pet's portrait is dependent on
complexity of the painting (full body, head
only, background or including a favourite
toy, etc.) and also on the number of pets in
the portrait. For example, a portrait of two
subjects costs approximately double, etc.
This will be discussed with you at the time
of commission.
► Payment: Full payment
is required prior to commencing the
portrait. Once final price is
agreed upon and shipping cost
to your address is confirmed, you will be sent
an invoice via Paypal or payment can be made
by e-Transfer (if within Canada).
►
Photo of your pet: I
work from a clear reference photo of your pet;
it should be a relatively high resolution
(higher than 1000 pixels) in order to capture
details... otherwise a looser-style painting
will be the result. It is often helpful to
send additional photos of your pet(s) showing
details of the eyes, nose and variation of
colour. Whenever
possible, the background of the reference
photo is left out or simplified so that your
pet takes center stage.
► Measurements: Finished
unframed dimension of a portrait is
approximately 6"x9" - either landscape or
portrait - centered on a 8"x10" page of
professional-grade archival watercolour
paper. As mentioned, if framed, the finished
piece as a whole is 11"x14" which includes
the frame and mat.
►
Paper and paints: I
use only professional artist-grade watercolour
paints and archival, acid-free paper.
► A final proof of the finished
painting will be emailed to you for approval,
prior to shipping the painting to you in a
protective cello sleeve in a flat mailer, or
prior to your picking it up (local orders).
► Turn-around time is dependent on
volume of commissions at time of request. An estimated
timeline can be provided. I try to work with a
lead time of approximately 2-3 months, but
that can vary with time of year. Please note
that last-minute or express orders are
generally not possible.
► Framing: If you live locally,
and are interested in having the completed
portrait framed before you pick it up, I offer
framing and matting services. The standard I
use is always a modern plain white frame
(measuring 11"x14") with a white mat - the
white on white really brings out the detail
work in the paintings. Please ask for a quote
for my framing/matting service in addition to
your commissioned portrait.
